Dining, Entertaining,& Shopping

The St. Petersburg Pier is undoubtedly the most popular part of the city. The original pier opened in 1889, but over the years, it has undergone several iterations to become more modernized for the local community. Most recently, the 26-acre attraction was rebuilt and reopened in 2020. Offering panoramic views of Downtown St. Petersburg and the cerulean waters of Tampa Bay, The St. Petersburg Pier offers plenty of places to bike, eat, shop, and swim. Throughout the year, there are several events held at the pier, which range from sunset yoga and pilates to concerts and festivals.

After perusing shops on the pier, head to the Salvador Dali Museum to view the inspiring works of the iconic artist. View work that includes everything from melting clocks to avant-garde symbols. In addition to the permanent collection and rotating exhibits, the museum also has a waterfront garden with a labyrinth. Once you’ve worked up an appetite and are ready to relax with a cocktail or glass of wine, head to Cassis. The elevated brasserie and bakery offers French- and American-inspired fare, including steak frites, Croque Monsieur, and grilled octopus, alongside custom pastries, cakes, and gelato. If you’re in the mood for a romantic meal, head to Il Ritorno to sample some of the best Italian cuisine in the city. The menu changes in tandem with the freshest seasonal ingredients, so you’re sure to enjoy a fun new culinary experience each time you visit.

Things To Do

If you love the sunshine, you’ve come to the right place. The entire city is lined with waterfront parks, including Vinoy Park and North Straub Park. Whether you want to work out, read a book, or go for a jog, be sure to keep an eye on the water to see if you can spot some dolphins. Several of the parks have waterfront trails that allow visitors to bike or hike near the water.

Vinoy Park hosts several highly anticipated events throughout the year, including The Sunshine Music Festival, which was formerly known as the Sunshine Music and Blues Festival. The event has gained a cult following due to its emphasis on blues, rock, and soul music. Come for the music, and stay for the food, wine, and beer!

If you’re interested in the architecture of the city, book a walking tour of Historic Downtown. Available on the first Saturday of every month from October to April, the tour includes buildings from the city’s early days, including the Open Air Post Office and the Snell Arcade. Be sure to end the week on the right note by stopping by the Saturday Morning Market, the largest weekly open-air fresh market in the Southeast. This dog-friendly market has plenty of booths filled with fresh produce, flowers, gifts, and more.
